High fuel pressure

help please. Ok I have a 2005 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer. 5.4l. Cranks and will not start. I have replaced the fuel pump because I was told the pressure regulator is built into the pump. I am getting 60-90 psi at the rail. I know this has a fuel distribution system by the spare tire. It was corroded on the Our side but I did not crack it open. Was told they fail because of the metal it is made from, and the bracket it mounts too. Aluminum to steel, good job ford. Was told that as long as there is not a hole it should be good. How do I fix a high pressure on this style of system?

There's no pressure regulator on the pump in the '05 Expedition. The pressure regulator (or sensor) is on the drivers side on the fuel rail. The system receives information on the fuel pressure, then it sends signals to the Fuel Pump Driver Module which is mounted on the frame behind the drivers side rear wheel, you can access it by removing the plastic inner lining behind the rear wheel in the wheel well. The driver module then regulates the duty cycle of the fuel pump in accordance with the signal from the PCM. These driver modules usually work and then abruptly stop working when they are damaged. Corrosion is a real issue, but you can prevent this by mounting the module on spacers so it's not mounted on to the frame. The upgraded parts are mounted this way in order to prevent this issue, so if yours isn't bad already then this is a good way to prevent it from going bad.

See if the fuel pressure sensor is even plugged in. Sounds like the fuel pump module isn't even getting a pressure signal from the sensor and it's just running the fuel pump full speed. If it's plugged in then it may just be bad and needs to be replaced.
You can find one over at Rock Auto for under $100. If you have the ForScan scanner program the fuel pressure should show up on that too if the sensor's working and reading it. ForScan Download

tha N you so much for the replies

hello and thank you for your replies. Little bit of an update. I think it is the fuel rail sensor, just have to get ahold of one. I did check the management system by the spare tire. I was a little corroded so I cleaned it up sprayed on some rubberized undercoat on both pieces and put it back in. When I get ahold of the sensor I will post if it works or not. There is not much else it can be. The relay is good and all that test good. One question. So I did take the pressure sensor off for inspection. I tried to actuate the vacuum but got nothing at all. Also no codes have come up at all for the sensor, coils that be because of failure? Thank you again for your time!!

If you have any way to monitor PIDs, I would monitor the FRP sensor reading and compare that to a mechanical gauge. They should read within 3-5 PSI of each other. If they check out, and the Fuel pump driver module shows any signs of corrosion, that would be the first item I'd suspect as a culprit.

Trying to find an answer on here to my high pressure at the fuel rail issue 2006 f-250 5.4. Im getting 90-100lbs. This is a closed fuel system with no return fuel line. pressure is controlled by the pcm, sensor on fuel rail and control at the rear of the truck. I'll elaborate if this actually posts on the site...not sure how things work here.
