Well today I went to a completely different dealer and checked XL's and they didn't have them either. Should I contact Ford and ask about it or chalk it up to the XL trim level? Some have them and other don't. Totally have no Idea why Ford wouldn't have them on XL's.
What are we talking about here ?
If it's the Black Insulator attached under the hood all 6 of my 2017 Base XL Trucks have it.
The base XLT trucks have it also.
Yes, the black thing is what I'm talking about... Some have them and some don't, this what makes it frustrating to me.
I went back there yesterday and check all the XL/STX trucks and they didn't have them, so they told it must be the way it's configured and left it at that. I also went to another dealer and checked XL/STX's and no Hood Insulators. I called Ford Customer Service today and they wanted to forward me to Marketing because they didn't know the configuration of my truck. So I will call Marketing in the A.M. to get a better answer. I would think that ALL trucks would have it on there for possible heat protection of the hood paint but I'm not Ford.

This isn’t to protect hood paint - your paint will be okay. The sun makes it plenty hot all by itself. The insulation is for noise abatement. Strange that it’s applied so inconsistently on XL models...
The insulator is there to protect the hood from engine heat as well as noise abatement.
I don't think it is there for heat protection. Why would my 2016 XLT diesel not have a hood pad, but my 2017 XLT diesel does have one? Yet my 2015 gas HAD a hood pad, and apparently quite a few 2017 gas trucks do not have it?
I would agree, it is for noise reduction. These gas engines are not direct injected so they are not particularly noisy. Maybe the aluminum hood changes the acoustics.
Maybe it has something to do with location, My 6 2017 XL 250's and 7 2017 Base XLT's all have them, All gas. The 2 450's Stake bed dumps diesel's have them also. Each group were ordered same time XL's 12/1/16 XLT's 2/1/17.
Looks like every one thats reporting back after checking seems to have one, except in your area. Do you have the hood light ? Maybe the rear back up camera (Now Standard) took it's place.
My 2017 F450 does not have an insulating blanket eiter. Now, instal one or leave it without. I just wonder what makes the decision to put one on or leave it off while being built. $70,000 and that can't put one on?
On the previous generation (2011-2016) the gas trucks came with a hood insulator and the diesel trucks did NOT. For 2017, the diesel trucks now come with them, not sure about the gas.
My 2011 F250 6.2 XL did not come with one, and glad it didn’t as it would have been heavy with mud and water.
