So my E40D tranny in my F350 Dually, 1989, 4WD, 7.3 Ltr IDI diesel burns up...ohh well. Truck has a dump bed, I’m down in the islands, I’ll be honest, this truck has had a hard life. No worries, I order a rebuilt tranny and HD torque converter from Monster transmission. Well, Monster sent a six lug converter, the IDI has a 4 lug. (I find this out after getting the tranny out) Make a long story short, this was a tuff job-rolling around in the dirt, the ford tranny pan is not flat, everything is rusted, blah blah blah. Now I notice the shaft for the shift linkage on the new tranny is threaded on the end, where the old one was not. After prying(beating) the arm off the old shaft, I notice it’s not splined, no key way, nothing-apparently just pressed on to the shaft. After placing it on the replacement tranny, it just rotates.....WTF? Any ideas on how to affix it? Are these arms a 1 time use? JB weld? Weld? What a **** poor design....any ideas?
Just a wag but it sounds like they sent you the wrong transmission.
I don’t need WAGS, lol. It’s def an E40D, same P/N on the case. It’s just a different shaft I guess, I know the E40D went into more than 1 ford truck. Hoping someone with some serious transmission experience has some ideas. After doing this job I know I’ll never do it again, it was a hard job. The lame-*** Ford dealer here on Island wont work on any vehicle older than 10 years, what a lame dealer. I’ve emailed Ford about what a crappy dealer they have here and got some canned corporate response. I wanted to upgrade to a newer truck but have heard nothing but horror stories about the power strokes and 6.0’s so I stick with the old 7.3 IDI. Anyone have any dealings with Monster transmission? I’m thinking I should have went with Jasper

Wrong torque converter and wrong shifter shaft for your application. Personally I would not make it work unless Monster gave you some sort of refund to make it worth the hassle. Otherwise they need to swap it out with a different unit.
Replacing a transmission isn’t all that difficult if you are in a shop. I used to do it all the time as a tech.
