So, yesterday I hit some slush/ice from this past Nor'Easter and slid into a telephone pole which pretty much destroyed the passenger side of my 2002 F-150 XLT Supercab with the 8 foot box. Mechanic (a different mechanic this time around) says its not even worth trying to fix because the roof is bent, rocker panel doesn't exist anymore, and the unibody is toast. Anybody got some redneck fixes that aren't too expensive?
with a bent roof, you will have continual leaks around the door.... the ONLY way to save money on a wreck is to do the work yourself.. banged up fenders and bed side can be neglected, but roof and doors have to FIT.

depends on what you want it to look like... You could replace the door and windshield and try to move the door post back into a position where the latch would hold... MIGHT be possible... leave the fender and bed as is..
I had a 2002 EXPLORER that was hit in the right rear corner.. Busted the side window, wrinkled fender, busted rear window and bent back hatch real bad, busted axle half shaft, busted lower A frame in rear, and poked out the tire.... $4500. truck with $7000 damage.. They totaled it... I bought it for $700. and bought an A frame, tire, half shaft, side window and rear hatch / window for $1100. and put it all back together... NO LABOR COST is what saved it... Fender and rear bumper still have some damage, but its a great spare vehicle ........... You can do anything if you try hard enough.
Getting a new door to match the roof and door post would be the major problem.

I don't care about what it looks like, I just want it to work. They guy who looked at it basically told me that I should just drive it until it just will not drive anymore and get a new one.
well, you can do that also........ buy a couple tubes of black caulk and seal up the crack between the door, roof and door post. Door never opens again... I doubt the Police will like the plastic on the side window.. But a sheet of plexiglass and caulk it to the door edge and put a couple screws to hold it tight..... windshield is up to you. New one probably will not fit unless you bend things around....... any cracks around the window that would let water inside should be caulked.
