another engine/tran swap question

another engine/tran swap question
I'm still trying to figure out ahead of time what problems I'm going to have swapping a '97 engine/tran into my '94 Ranger. I'm not doing this for speed or such, just to replace a very tired engine. I'm wondering what problems I'll run into putting an OBD-II engine/tran into an OBD-I Ranger. If anyone knows of a thread about this or can give me some advice, I'll appreciate it.

Are you swapping in the same engine of something totally different? If it's the same engine then you should be able to make it work with your '94 EFI system and wiring, you may have to change some parts but otherwise it'll work. If it's a totally different motor then you are in for a more complicated project.

never done that kind of change,,,but i think you will need the computer and a lot of the wiring under the hood to pull that off,,,,not to mention motor and trans mounts....trying to remember if a 94 is OBD 1 and 97 is OBD 2 if so you would need the OBD 2 port thats under dash so you could check for codes,,,,bot to mention how to wire clutch safety switch into a auto trans

agreed, im feeling both full underhood and underbody wiring harnesses. How would you make the rear speed sensor work? Would you need to swap rear ends for that so the computer has the VSS to know how to shift and such. maybe all the under the dash wiring too so the computer can work with the speedo and such in combination with the VSS.
