I have a 83 f250 2wd and I have replaced the steering gear box tie rods and bushings in the steering shaft new tires and been aligned . The steering has very little play but when I drive it the truck is still wanting to pull both way and wants to bump steer really bad. Needing help thanks
Jack up the front tires one at a time. Grab them at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock and wiggle, and then grab them at 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock and wiggle. Any play will have to be addressed. Sad to say, in the old days a frontend guy would check the whole frontend out before he aligned it. You can't say that anymore, it's hard to find anyone that will do quality work. So if you find play they aligned it and the frontend still has problems.
If you do not find any play, then carefully inspect the rivets on the front crossmember behind the steering box, and carefully inspect the frame where the steering box mounts. This area can have cracking problems and can cause unusual problems not normally found during a frontend alignment.
If you can't find anything, you need to find a shop that will work with you, one with a good reputation. You need to go in there and tell them you are having problems with your truck and you would like for them to fix it. The old alignment shops would first take your truck for a test drive and try to re-create the problems you are talking about. Once they are verified, they rotate tires, check the alignment and whatever it takes to fix the actual problem. That's not a guarentee they will find it, but that is a better approach than just "doing an alignment" on it.
