Question Transmission, is this legit?

Found this on Amazon, never heard of it, never knew it was an issue. I have been on the forums for a while, and thought I would have come across this here, but oh well. What do you guys think, is this legit?

Semi legit. The first several months of 5R110W production in late 2002/early 2003 had plastic pressure sensors. The decision to not use them was made too late for Job#1, so they went into production. At some point they were eliminated because they didn't do the job they were designed to do. I don't remember just when they were eliminated.

Do you need to install these plugs to replace them? I've never heard of one failing, but I suppose it is possible.

That's correct. I don't think it's an issue at all, but certainly not on a 2006.

Thank you very much for the information, I was going to do this when I put on the 6.4L pan and filter, but hey, it is good to know I don't need to.

I put one in my 2005 Excursion and I'm very happy with it, It's just insurance, as there was no o-ring on the original plastic one. Also extremely easy to install if your doing the 6.4L filter \ pan upgrade.

I bought 5 plugs for my early 2003 since I was upgrading solenoids, changing to the 6.4 filter and pan but when I removed the pan my plugs were not dummys, all 5 have wires to them so I left them alone and got my $14.75 each back. Some only have wires to one, some have wires to all I guess. Maybe they are dead end wires?

The wires are not used. The software that was going to look at those inputs was deleted before the 5R110 went into production. All the parts for the sensors and wiring were already on hand,so instead of scrapping all of those parts they were used, but the input from those sensors was ignored.

Would you be so kind to help me understand the situation with my 2005 Excursion 5R110. I had one plastic plug which I replaced with the metal plug. Can I actually go back in (say when I do the next filter change) and swap out other wired sensors with these metal plugs?

Yes, you can. Why do you want to?

It isn't needed for ANY year 5R110W. The sensors are not there on your 2006. The holes are there with plugs. You can remove those plugs and install these aftermarket plugs. But why would you want to do that?

Ah, I get it. I did not notice they were talking about 5R110, not the 5R110W. Now I see the light.... Thanks.

Do you know the difference between the 5R110 and the 5R110W? The difference is that sometimes people leave the W off. There was only a 5R110W, there is no such thing as a 5R110. Even I get lazy about including the W at times.

Since it’s such a big deal what does 5R110W stand for? I know I messaged you about my 5R100 because I made a typo but now I want to know what it stands for.
