The title of this thread is almost accurate. If you have 2017, 2018 then you can download V3.0. I really don't know where its starting, but it is available. No - just because it says it available, doesn't mean anything. It said to download it, you need a 32gb usb stick. I loaded the stick on my system and pressed the update button (3 hours ago). It still has the little circle going round & round.
My question is since this is a first for me, how long does it take ?
I was able to updated it today using a 32gb USB stick. I downloaded it to the USB from the ford site while I made dinner then went for a drive while it uploaded to SYNC. A notification came on the screen saying I had to shut the truck off and restart the engine (complete with pulling the key out of the ignition and opening the door to totally disconnect) to complete the update. I pulled in an empty parking lot and did this. It said the update was successful and it says V3.0 is installed when I checked under settings. I went back to the ford site and completed the task of registering that I did the update to sync using the USB again, all as directed.
I didn't quite pay attention how long it took to download the update to the USB from the website, but I did note it took almost an hour to download it to sync. It gave me an excuse to drive around and listen to music while updating.
But what all did this update do? All Ive noticed so far was a new icon for the navigation tab on the task bar on the bottom of the screen.

This also applies to 2016 vehicles.
I have a 2016 Lariat and I received a notice on the Ford Owner website that I have a SYNC 3 update and that update is for 3.0
My last update, which was almost 6 months ago, was for 2.3 and that`s what i`1m currently running.
Looks like the Ford download interface on their web page doesn't like dealing with FireFox. I signed onto the owners page using IE and it downloaded with no problem. Will install later this morning.
Got it installed, only took about 20min. I does state "Update completed" twice. After the first one, it re-booted Sync and then continued to update. When I got back home, I logged on to Ford and stated that the upgrade was completed. It then wanted me to upload a .XML file that was supposed to written to the USB Stick at completion. Well my USB stick had NO XML file. I may never get another update in future since according to the web site that the XML is used to make ford aware of what release of Sync I have.
I updated mine from 2.3 to 3.0. Sadly this update does not include the Waze support. Disappointed about that as that was the only reason I ran the update. I was having no issues with version 2.3.
