i got a 90 F-250 that im tring to tow a 5th wheel with what is the max towing for my truck i have looked ever were but i cant fine it so one help please!
also im about to put a bank sindwinder wastgate turbo on will that help me tow more weight.
I have the 3.55 rear end and detroit locker. Is that ok for towing. Im new to towing stuff. I was Given this 5th wheel but not sure how my truck is going to take if it can. This is the only truck i got and I dont want to kill it.
4.10s would help, but i think adding the turbo might make up for that. Im not exactly a diesel expert though. I know I pulled 14,000 lbs with a 351, and i have 4.10s. And I know the 7.3 will pull a lot better than the 351, so it might all balance out, especially with the turbo
check driver side door post or door itself it will tell you gvwr (gross vehicle weight rating) this is what you can safely pull or carry with your truck depending on this figure stay with you 3.55 gears check thread to turbo or not to turbo good info on both situations is trans standard or automatic your borderline on the weight factor between 3.55 and 4.10 if all you do is pull and can live with 9-12 mpg =4.10 if you need 12-16 mpg =3.55 if will work alittle harder but minor upgrades should close to gap between the to before you chunk the $ on the turbo setup. with a turbo it will help but dont get caught up in all the hype of i've gotta turbo and you don't have one bull and i can pull a freight train. i have 3 7.3 diesels 2 non turbos and 1 turbo they all work hard and pull hard but each is set up for specific purpose's. and that is what you need to decide the purpose and go in that direction till happy!
its a auto E4od and gvwr is 8600lbs but i talk to ford the other day and he said the max tow was at least 10000. and 12000 with 4.10 I thought the gcvwr was the max tow for the truck. but that is not on my truck. and i cant fine it any where. can some one help with gcvwr. thanks
your truck may have had doors replaced or door jambs repainted at one time or another the info should be on the driverside door or door post gvrw (gross vehicle weight rating)
8600 lbs is the GVWR for a 3/4 ton truck. You need to find the
gcwr for the truck to find out what it's rated with trailer.
12,000 lbs with 3.55's? I think you're asking for misery. ...but I tow at altitudes above 4500 feet with a gas engine, so I lose lots of power. I tow a 6500 lb trailer with a 5.7 L Suburban 3/4 ton with 4.10 gears. It's an exercise in frustration. I've just been thinking about getting something else or installing a 502 in my old Burban.
Methinks an INTERCOOLED turbo would make a significant difference. Diesels are MUCH less forgiving with regard to rpm than a gas engine. Find out what rpm the torque peak is at. You want your rpm in a narrow range around that peak. If your 3.55's will put you near that peak at the speed you wish to tow, then you'll be happy. I assume you don't have oversize (diameter) tires, or you'll really be hating life.
I've never heard anyone complain about having too much towing power. I've frequently heard folks complain about not enough.
You already have the truck and the trailer. Try it and see how it goes. You aren't gonna hurt the truck, so you just need to decide how fast you need to go.
According to my 91 owner's manual, 12,000 lbs is the GCWR, not the max tow weight. Weigh your truck and subtract that from 12,000 and that's your tow rating.
