installed some new front pro-comp 4" Super Duty lift springs.
They are slightly taller than I was wanting. I know they may settle down slightly once i drive it, which I may see how they look after a little driving. . I Read where i would remove the second spring in the pack (military wrap) and it would maybe lower an 1"
Does this have any long term negative effect? WIll the spring be more likely to sag over time or break?
It can be a game of trial and error. I've done a lot of leaf-spring tuning, building numerous Jeeps with non-factory leaf springs from other vehicles. New springs will settle some, but not a whole lot, unless you're adding more weight from aftermarket bumpers, winches, bigger motors, etc... As to which spring to remove, I'd have to be more familiar with the exact spring you're using, such as number of individual leafs in the pack, and leaf thickness...
Another thing to note, lift springs, since they have a larger arch than factory sprints, are longer than stock, by removing leaf(s) you can throw off your shackle angles. But again there's other variables at play with shackle angles.
I removed the last 2 leafs of my super duty springs. I bought the springs off cl but they were new so I don't know how much lift they were suppose to be. With the two leafs remove I have 3 left and it's level with my rear shackle flip and stock rear springs (guessing 3" of lift)
i did have the issue that skyhawc mentioned. The springs got long after removing leafs and that moved the axle back. I fixed this by moving the front hanger about 1.5" forward to go along with the 2" longer front shackles that sd spring require.
