I was super lucky to find a super sharp 1996 150 351 Windsor XLT. Couldn't be happier. Thrilled to join you boys. Clean NC truck. Couple of brown spots and baby paint bubbles below a door. Otherwise near perfect. What do you do? Nip it in the bud? Sand it...find some paint, or leave it alone. Do these 150s have better value in original but faded condition, or repainted? Not antiques yet. Thanks, Tim
Sand it down to bare metal and cut out whatever rust is there. Hopefully, its just pinholes which can be easily repaired. As far as paint, I think new paint always add value to any car/truck.
The problem with rust is what you see is only the tip of the iceberg. With any luck, your spots are the result of a paint failure and you can stop the problem with refinishing. If your luck is like mine and tends to run towards bad luck/no luck, the rust may have already perforated the panel and it will have to be replaced. At any rate, the longer you leave it, the more work you will have.
As to patina, by the time this truck becomes something that could genuinely be considered antique or collectible, the patina fad may have passed. Even so, refinishing a rocker panel would not seriously degrade any accumulated patina.

Welcome to the forum!
I agree with EllieMae as far as the rust goes either cut or sandbast.
As a buyer I like to see original everything, paint, motor, tranny etc. I'd rather by a truck with 100,000 miles than a rebuilt with 5,000. But,thats just me.
Nice find on the truck and welcome.
I agree, once you start grinding it down the rust is almost always worse than it looked prior to grinding/sanding. Take some pics, we'd like to see your new truck and might be able to give you a better idea what to expect in regards to rust damage.
Awesome. I've tried to send pics from my phone...but I caint do it... I will try to get a close up tomorrow a.m. thanks. Happy to have new friends. I know nothing of trucks... But this is my first love...
