connecting trailer steps

Is there any posts on the steps to connect and disconnect a trailer? I'm hoping to go get my camper tomorrow to set up some things in it and I thought I saw where there could be issues with the truck thinking the camper was still connected. Thought I would ask about the steps to follow and do it right the first time. I'll need to add the trailer to my truck too.

Thanks

Greg

You will need to set up the trailer and name it. Connect to trailer then. Set up its profile with what type brakes it has and the amount of brake gain. Then when ever you un-hook you go to trailer setting and select the option NO TRAILER SECECTED. Some say theirs do it when they disconnect from the trailer but all my trailers I have to do it myself. Note you cannot change setting of the trailer while moving. Only thing you can adjust on the move is brake gain.

You might want to change how DTE is computed to "towing" under <settings>, as well. Not necessary by any means, but it's there, so I switch mine back and forth to match what I'm doing.

Connected my truck to my camper and set it up. Didn't realize I had trailer reverse guidance so didn't get that set up but wish I did. I'd like to see how that works. I watched the YouTube video on it but I mean in person.

When I disconnected the camper my truck told me that the trailer had been disconnected so look like I am good. I'll try to remember and look for that message and if I don't see it I can go in and pick no trailer connected.

Nope that just means you do not have a trailer plug connected and has become unplugged. You will get a message every time you start up the truck and it will go default to the trailer section. After disconnecting you need to go to SELECT TRAILER, then you need to select NO ACTIVE TRAILER. Otherwise it will continue to add miles to that last trailer that was selected and continue to get trailer disconnected message. People get confused with this as it's designed to tell you while going down the road that your trailer became unplugged. Hope this helps.

KAM - close, but no cigar. For many of us, the truck does recognize the trailer as having been disconnected... maybe because we're in park when it happens? I've never had to choose "No Trailer". And I've checked - i'm not racking up miles on any of my trailers when they're not connected. The thought is - the truck needs to be running (and maybe in Park) in order to have it auto-remove the trailer.

I'll check mine in the morning. I pulled my camper from the storage place to right across the street where there was a flat area so I could set up my LevelMatePro and back so I put 0 miles on it. Then I drove the truck home which is like 10 miles so I will definitely know.

Lucky you. I have tried it all kinds of ways on my trailers and I still have to select NO ACTIVE TRAILER each time I disconnect. I wish it would auto select NO ACTIVE TRAILER. I've asked a few other in my area and they say the same with them that they have to select.

Its bloody inconsistent, which is why everyone has a different opinion.
I have 4500 miles on the truck, 3000+ of that is towing the same (and ONLY) trailer in the system. The truck seems to think I only have about 1200 miles on the trailer...and sometimes increments after I disconnect...sometimes not. Still haven't figured it out. We always pull the 7 pin connector with the truck running and dismiss the "Trailer disconnected" message.....

bloody inconsistent.

I haven't towed any of my personal campers yet, so let the truck automagically select "default" whenever I pick up a camper for delivery. I have disconnected with the truck running and with the truck off, and I have to manually select "no trailer selected" and reset the mileage counter for the default trailer every time as well.
