The TPS has a lot of function in the system from a single output value..
It tells the PCM how much throttle opening you give for power.
It tells the PCM how fast you request power such as on acceleration. This adds fuel richness.
It tells the PCM what the conditions are for up and down shifting points.
It tells PCM when it's permissible to allow EGR operation.
It tells the PCM to prevent fuel injection during cranking if you go more than about 7/8 open throttle. Useful for clearing a flooded engine.
It tells the PCM, on a Deceleration, there is time to do table updates when there is the least to do in program control.
Bottom line is it's an important sensor.
Good luck.
