Rear Axle Question

Running through the threads on rear axle ratios, I looked under the back expecting to find an axle with bolts on the back plate and either a tab or missing tab with the ratios on it. My rear axle doesn't have bolts on the back. Is this axle from some other vehicle? Mine a 1963 F100 shortbed wrongside.

Rear Axle.

Nevermind. Found a drawing showing that the access bolts are on the front. Duh.

9" does not have an inspection cover, the optional Dana 44 & Dana 60.2 (1963/66 F100) do (both have Limited Slip, the 9" does not).

9" referred to as a "drop out" rear axle because the carrier (aka pumpkin - 4141 in pic) can be removed as a unit with all the parts (excepting the axle shafts) intact.

The ID tag (if still present, most aren't today) located at approx. 5 o'clock under one of the bolts that retains the carrier to the housing.

AXLE code stamped on the 2nd line-far right of the Warranty Plate, riveted to the left door face (1963/79) below the latch. Post what the code is.

Pic: 9" rear axle.

That's where I got confused thanks. That data panel in the left door says the axle is '12'
