The ride

I can share this opinion here without offending anyone, I hope. I spend a lot of time on many of the other years of vintage trucks and there is no small amount of members putting Crown vic fronts, bags, 4 bars on old trucks. People who basically just want something that looks old but doesn't have it's original Charm. Today I was driving home in my 2003 Gran Marquis, the road burner. Now don't get me wrong, I've put a lot of windshield time in this car since I started doctoring and it's been a blessing but I can't believe that is how a lot of owners want their vintage truck to drive. I wouldn't give up the bumps, noise smells or any other part of my old truck to have it drive like a faceless Crown vic. rant over.

I totally agree. The fun in having an old truck is, well, having an old truck! Not a modern car disguised as an old truck....
I drove my F-1 to Speedweek last year.....1500 mile trip. Flat V8, 6 volt, I beam axle, etc. Had a blast! Plan on doing it again this year!

We all have our opinions, and none are more correct than others. While I can appreciate a stone stock restoration, I can also appreciate a truck that has had a full suspension upgrade, non-stock engine, etc. That's one of the great things about old cars and trucks, they can, with the knowledge and money, be built to the owner's tastes.
I kind of equate a truck build to an old house. There are those out there that want a 100 year old house, and all of the "quirks" and features of an old home, including single pane glass, no central heat or cooling, etc. In other words, just how the house was originally. Then there are others who like the look and craftsmanship that went into that 100 year house, but also want modern convenience and comfort. Both houses have their pros and cons, both have their place, and both should be admired.
One thing I really like about the group of guys here, there isn't a lot of replies saying, "I don't like it" or "that's hideous". Maybe we might not like a certain truck, but there isn't a lot of negative comments like I've seen on other groups.

I'm in your camp too WB! I have a couple that I wish would track a little straighter than they do, but I don't seem to wish it so bad that I lose the real truck stance. I have been going 12 volt lately, so I guess I have sunk to that level with the gm one wire on a slingshot. My panel is still 6v pos and I think I'll keep that old beater that way. In re-reading that last sentence, I put an 'a' in between the word 'still' and '6v'. It was pretty funny to see.

Well I'm not against modifications......my F-1 has a 5 speed and radial tires. And my COE is seriously "darkside".

And these are but two of the reasons we admire you.

Agreed.....

Love my old stuff and I have always tried to drive them as much as possible although these days with traffic I have some trouble keeping up with the big 41. Still trying to fix that. I have an explorer that rides like a Caddy and is good for long road trips, but when I get to where I am going I wish I had the old stuff. Oh well.

I'm not against modifications and I agree it would be a pretty boring hobby if we all did the same thing. Times have changed and for many of us, the only way we can enjoy something old is to make it keep up with traffic and stop good. I would certainly drive my 59 more if it wasn't at full song to run 55-60

To me your home made rpu is a perfect example of keepin it affordable and keepin it real and something that is really fun to drive, but you don't have to be Bill Gates to own.

As long as it has some sort of ICE I will probably like it. Maybe not as much as that person but it is not my place to tell anyone what they should like.
My taste in vehicles is really only for me to enjoy 100% If someone else like it that is great. Respect for someone else and what they like is foremost and I like that the people here tend to agree on that one point. I'm here to learn, enjoy the passion and help if I can.

A buck ten at the top of fourth with 5th left, disc brakes because it cost half as much as fixing the drums. Everything home made. It just is what it is, a rod built in the spirit of the 40s-50s when you used what you could find and made it fit.
