Hi All,
Have a great 72 F250 HighBoy I picked up awhile back and just now starting to sort through it. One issue that is has is that the low beams do not work at all. Neither do the tail lamps. Blinkers work, high beams work, brake lights work. I checked all the fuses and don't see any issues. Anyone run into this before and have a solution?
Thanks in advance!
First, not to insult your intelligence but make sure both low beams aren't blown. I've seen it before, one blows, the people don't realize it and keep driving until the other one blows and "oh cra**! I don't have low beams!.
If they're okay next suspect either the dimmer switch or low beam circuit. Because you have high beams, the wiring to the switch is okay. Check the low beam wiring starting at the plug on the dimmer switch. I've seen the wire break right at the plug. There is no fuse for the low beams. There's an internal circuit breaker built into the headlight switch.
I was wondering about the low beams, too. I know this truck sat for quite some time before I got it. I figured it wasn't them because the tail lights also don't work....of course they could ALL be burned out I suppose. I do remember a hi/low beam switch going bad on a 65 Mustang I had many years ago, so that's definitely a possibility. Once we dig out from the 24" of snow we just had dumped on us I'll get out to my shop and check the actual headlights before digging much further.
