Towing Without Trailer Tow Mirrors

I am surprised to see how many photos there are of F150's towing full size travel trailers without TT mirrors. Width of most travel trailers is 8ft. Width of F150' s is 6.5 ft. Are standard mirrors enough when towing 8 ft travel trailers?

I don't see how they would be adequate. On my F-350 I could use an extra 1" of extension on my mirrors just so I can see the side of the trailer.

NO! ... and not saying you are doing this but please don't be one of those people who tow without being able to see down the side of the trailer they are towing.

I always become super vigilant around those people because, and I've seen it dozens of times, they tend to change lanes/turn blindly without being able to see traffic in the lanes beside them.

There is a reason some of the big trucks have the decal "If you can't see me in my mirrors, then I can't see you!"

This is simply a case of "if you drive fast enough, you only need to worry about what is in front of you".

The closest I have ever come was using those CIBA clip on mirror extensions. They worked OK, but not as well as actual tow mirrors.

I towed my TT home from the dealer all of about 6 miles, then went to the local auto store and bought the clip on mirror extensions. They help, but I sure wish they were a bit further out, and I really wish someone made extended side mirrors for the 03 SCREW.

Occasionally I have pulled our small 20' carhauler with my dad's 03 E350 van. I absolutely hate those little mirrors...

I put tow mirrors on a 2006 F150 regular cab. Bought them from Tasca pretty cheap. Manual extend, manual fold. Should fit your truck too.

I installed these a year ago on my 2003 SCREW https://www.1aauto.com/ford-expediti...1111804&y=2003 A year later one is good, one vibrates a little. Haven't spent the time to see if it could be tightened.

I am considering a late model F150 to replace the 03. Ford's website BUILD&PRICE lists TT mirrors for $275 which seems like a reasonable price until you discover they REQUIRE adding mirror LED side lites for a total of $450! Maybe that's why many choose to forego the safety of extendable trailer mirrors.
