My wife was driving the other day and ran the front tank dry before she switched it over.
I filled the front tank now it doesn't pump, and when I start it on the back tank it seems to be slow on the fuel pickup.
Sounds like the front FDM needs replacing to fix both problems.
It overheated.
The fuel is used for cooling.
If you do not replace the front FDM the front tank will overflow while running on the back FDM.
I thought I could wait till the snow left to replace the front pump.
Now I have the rear tank filling the front tank and the front tank is overflowing.
What's up with this?

OK, I know I have to replace the front pump.
Is there a way to shut off the return line to stop fuel going to the front tank?
This is my winter beater, and spring is still a month away, so I'd like to keep it running till then.
What system do they use on short WB trucks with only a front tank?

There are two valves that shut off flow to the unused tank. One in the return line, the other is the high pressure supply. Best bet would be to remove both lines and plug them. An ancient thread on this topic: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...uel-lines.html

There is only a supply and return line line. The tank selector switch is replaced with a jumper and the dash panel is not punched out for said switch.
