I remember a while back I was asking for help about an issue with my dual tanks on my truck. So here it is, hope somone can help me.
When I use my back tank the truck works good. But when I switch to my front it's almost like the truck is being starved for fuel. It'll rev right up in nuetral, it's just when you are driving it won't go the speed that it does when I have the rear tank on.
It gets to a certain RMP range and then just stays at that speed, while the rev's go all the way up. I know it isn't anything mechanical because when I use the rear tank she works great, it's just when I switch it over I've got problems.
Now something else it does is make a nasty knocking sound near the drivers side of the engine. I'm pretty sure my front tank is just starving the engine of fuel.
But what could it be? Where is the fuel filter at? Are there 2 fuel pumps? Also how easy is it to replace the fuel filter? Should I drop the tank and replace the sock, or what could it be?
deananthony, cause that's a good idea. And why would I just leave something broken on my truck for? Not only is the front tank bigger but I think I get better milage on the front tank for some reason.
94F150-408: not sure if the parts were imported but they are installed and working ... i needed quite a few parts (the truck was a bargain) ... i shopped around and rockauto had the cheapest total for all the parts ... good place to deal with ... no problems and they shipped everything to my mechanic's shop
Could be a problem with the solenoid valve not switching over all the way. If it's only partially open for the front tank position it would be like an orifice in the line restricting flow. Is there any way to take it apart and clean it or flush it out?
My dad has a 94 F-150 with dual tanks and his does something weird too. when he is on the front tank everything is fine but when on the rear tank it runs good but it also pumps gas into the front tank. So when he switches back over to the front it's back up around 1/2 tank or so. He was told it was a known problem with the solenoid valve and it is a few hundred bucks to replace. So he just runs the front tank out first and refills it while simultaneously running off the rear tank. This also leads me to think it may be something with the solenoid valve.
