Has anyone ever had a superchip go "bad"? I had one installed on my 2000 F-250 powerstroke and then sold the truck and kept the chip b/c Superchips said it could be reprogrammed for my 2000 F-250 V-10(Same chip). I went to have it reprogrammed by an authorized dealer and he said it had a "bad" spot on it and it could not be erased or reprogrammed. Can that be?? Too much money on a peice of electronics that supposed to be able to be reprogrammed. Any advice besides adding a couple of treble hooks and making it a new fishing lure?
Well,
after posting that above, I decided to call superchips and they confirmed it for me. on the older chips, if you try to put a new update vice the previous update for that chip it will burn an internal fuse making it useless...but they will replace the chip at the regular re-programming fee of $125. It's better than double that for a new one and a tad cheaper than a tuner. Superchips said the tuner and chip(with lastest flash update) are almost identical in features for the V-10 with the exception of the diagnostics feature. So if you're looking for a cheaper way out on the tuning; go with a chip and get your diagnostics done for free at Autozone!!
With the Superchips, there are older chips that have slightly smaller ROMs that will not take the existing programs Superchips makes. If you try to attach one to a Superchips chip programmer the only thing it will do is complain about the size mismatch and refuse to program it --- they don't actually burn out.
