Inner cab corner idea

I just had a very redneck idea. I can get cheap cab corners for like $14.00 each. I am considering getting some using the left outer on the right inner and vise versa. What do you all think? Yay or nay

I'm not at home to crawl under mine. With your expensive ones you have there, does it look feasible?

I tried to find some pictures online to look. I kinda have a view in my head of what mine looks like. Using the opposite side in the rear might not look factory, but if it fits?? Why not.

I looked at some photos online and on my puter I think it will be easier than making them from scratch. So I got both sides with shipping from parts geek for $43.00. I figure I would spend close to that on raw material. Probably more because I would have a local sheet metal shop bring it in and I would end up buying 1/2 a sheet. I'm going to look at the panels I already have tonight.

My new cheap cab corners arrived the other day. I spent some time prepping and repairing some unseen carnage. So far looks like an inexpensive way to go. Some cutting, hammering and bending will be required.

This is what I'm starting with.I have the cab stood on the firewall. I find it much easier to work standing up, and I've been replacing floors and everything else. The inner panel is spot welded to the rear cab support and to the cab corner. So you'll need to spend some time getting this apart. I tried my best to remove each piece whole so I have a pattern, Thing don't always go as planned.

So this is what we are left with after the inner cab corner was removed.

So now we start. Deciding where to cut and bend and hammer. I have more fitting and adjusting to do. This is my first fit. Once I get it more shapely I will try and give some dimensions and where to bend for anyone who is in need of this type of repair.

So I made a slit at the bottom of the panel. I don't know if that was necessary, I didn't want the bottom of the panel to deform when I bent a flange so I had to do some hammering to flatten that area out. At the top where the panel meets the body I have been hammering that so the panel will tuck in and seal up with little sealer. I don't have any pictures of that yet. I will post my progress on this as we go.

I've gotten a little bit done. I figure I can update some. Here are some photos of where I made cuts and bends. I will be doing the driver side too. I will be able to post info on what it takes to get it apart as well. So photos.

First cut I made was at the bottom of the panel.I think the cut should be where the flange meets the bend in the panel.

I did tack it back together before I bent it.

And the second cut goes here, again on the line where the flange meets the bend.

I thought I had take some shots of the second cut, apparently not. I have to do a little hammer and dolly work still. I will get some shots of the panel further along.

Here it's very close to being ready.

Brian, that looks great. When I'm ready to weld this summer I know where I'm going for reference.

I've been working on my Honey-do list for the past three months. I just finished my firewall cover, grill inserts, and my passenger side wing window refurbish. That's all I've gotten done this winter. I posted some pics of the firewall cover I made.
