Problem is, when I tighten the top bolt down, it bottoms out in the frame and doesn't put any tension on the ball. I can still spin the hitch and it has about 1/4" play up and down.
Side bolts are loose, I confirmed that the inner housing is bottoming out in the main housing so it will not come up anymore.
Is the Curt gooseneck ball too tall? That is what it seems like but thought they would all be the same as I did not see any advertised as "short", "regular", or "tall".
I think I figured it out, the Curt ball for the Ram is lower, the one for all the other makes (Ford, Chevy, Nissan, etc...) is the taller version and too tall.
Ordered the lower version for the Ram, hopefully it fits....
Got the new Curt ball, https://www.curtmfg.com/part/60601 Don't ask me why they think the taller one is for Ford/Chevy/Nissan and the shorter (standard size) is only for Dodge.
The Dodge ball works great with the Andersen hitch and has same profile as most others you see out there. The taller ball probably wouldn't be a problem with a true gooseneck.
So is the Curt Dodge the ideal ball setup for the Andersen hitch?
I see some recommend Reese turnover ball and also the pullrite ball for solving the safety chain problem
FWIW I'm purchasing a preowned (unused) Andersen Ultimate today.... and there was mention of it including a ball + chains. This to match with a F250 F2018(not here yet) and a Jayco 26.5BHS
I had the same issue with my Curt Gooseball. I called Andersen and they sent me a shorter tube. It fits snug now. I towed ~1,500 miles with the loose hitch.
