Factory hub question

My 2001 has what appears to be factory hubs. I had trouble the other day when trying to back up a small wet grassy hill, only one rear wheel was spinning in 4wd high with the hubs in Auto mode. I pulled the truck a few feet forward and got out and locked my automatic hubs in manually and the truck climbed the hill. One thing I noticed when locking the hubs in manually was that one hub had a little resistance turning from auto to manual while the other hub was real easy to turn. Per a receipt given to me by the previous owner who had what he said was $2500 worth of front end work the following items were installed at a Diesel service shop about 1000 miles ago: axle seals, axle tube seals, hub seals, wheel bearing o-rings and 4' of vacuum line, plus some obvious front end suspension components. How can I check this 4wd system out to make sure it's working correctly in both Auto and manual mode - put the whole thing on jack stands and run it through the motions or is there other things I should be looking for? Thanks

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak that's not letting the hubs engage when in auto.
