I was helping my buddy’s son change the oil last weekend on his 1998 F-250 (5.4L Triton), after looking all over the engine and engine compartment, I noticed that the filter was relocated to the left side of the vehicle behind the headlight. After further investigation I could see that this remote filter hardware had the FORD logo all over it!
Does anyone know what I’m referring to? Does anyone know if FORD manufactures one that will fit my 2003 F-150 Supercrew? I find my filter almost impossible to access my filter to change it!
97 and 98 F series trucks (including anything that looks like one expedition) had the oil filter located behind the bumper on the outside of the frame under the drivers headlight.
Rumors are they removed it from that location because it was easily damaged in minor accidents.
Yes these parts are available from FORD. However, get the credit card warmed up because the major parts cost over $100 each! That is the adapter for the block, the hoses and the filter adapter/mount. Miscellaneous parts will bring the total to almost $400 bills.
I was wondering why my '98 had the filter down there. Took me a few minutes to find it when changing the oil for the first time last weekend (I have had it for almost 2 weeks now). I like it, very easy to access, and I don't plan on hitting anything .
Good thing you don't plan on hitting anything. These trucks have the worst crash rating of any of the full sized trucks when hit in the drivers side front at 40mph. I'll drive mine until it kills me though, I love these trucks.
