I have a 97 4.6 f150 I changed all the wires and plugs took care of the miss for a while and started missing again. I cleaned all the plug holes very good the second time and replaced plug that showed miss fire this has been going on for some time now for the fifth time miss on 6 egr code replaced plug egr and actuator it ran 19 miles perfect and started again. My question is will a coil pack gradually break down or when it is bad it is bad. I have thought about moisture and hair line cracks this thing is driving me crazy any advice?
I have gone through all the cleaning out of the holes and everything is dry 4 times no moisture I guess I will try a new coil pack last resort. Its got me stumped
I recon so. I guess its no time to worry about money now I have so much in it WTH. Ford has always been known for over engineering my luck it will be a 30 dollar relay or something like that.
Well the problem all along was clogged EGR ports, I got close when I replaced the EGR I cleaned as much as I could see but I didn't look far enough. Lesson learned
Sorry to say this but "blocked" EGR ports won't cause a miss on V8 motors.
You just happened to find the blockage. Otherwise a code 401 would have been set if you had checked. The computer self diagnostics checks the EGR system for a number of functions 2 times on every drive cycle..
If the missing is really clear, you unknowingly did something else while working on the EGR system.
.
Explanation:
The EGR does not open until either in OD above 45 mph or in manual third gear with OD switched off:
This mean with a blockage it could not make a difference in anything but a reduction in fuel mileage and the CEL would be on with a supporting code set.
.
I think your against the truck because you don't understand that the complex systems have to be understood so codes are set to help with the trouble shooting.
All modern vehicles of the last 25 years are the same way. Buy another make and you have the same level of complication. Trucks after 2004 at even more complex.
Good luck to you.
