I also do that squirrel hunting with a .36 flint. I do some Cowboy action and use a pair of .36 Navy cap and ball.
Rod I have a .45 caliber flintlock rifle, .69 caliber smoothbore musket, and a .75 caliber smoothbore musket. Also a .44 caliber 1858 Remington New Army revolver.
Morning Roy. They are fun for sure. it is always fun shooting the flintlocks at the range. Especially the muskets. When you pull out something that has a 46" long barrel and fire the first shot. Everyone else stops shooting to look at where the noise and smoke came from.
Good Sunday evening Montana, John, Roy, George and Shaun. I like taking the the .36 to the range, everything stops when flent strike steel. The smoke has to clear and the coughing down the line then they can shoot again.
Shaun I have my great great grandfathers 1860's 69 smooth bore cap, .45 cap and ball rifle, .45 cap and ball coat pistol (derringer), .50 flint pistol. they all smoke. They have a Cowboy action shoot here "Smoke Over Buffalo Flats" and it is black powder. I load 45 Colt for revolvers, Winchester lever and Winchester Pump for that. Other wise I shoot smokeless the rest of the year.
Morning Montana. Rod I dont reload any modern ammo. I will make paper cartridges for the muskets only. The rifle I measure powder and used a patched round ball for as I shoot that. As for my new army revolver I use loose powder and load with that.
