Need new (used) engine....

....or I may just scrap it. Got a 99 F250 SD that threw a rod and blew a hole in side of engine. What am I looking at cost wise? Any ideas? Did a quick search at Jasper Engines website and holey guacamole, it appears Im in deep! Please advise. Thanks.

Tough call. A remanufactured engine will be north of $4,000 without anyone installing it for you. If you can do the work yourself, there's that or find a donor truck.

Best of luck.

If the truck is in good condition, find a good running used motor. If you're into a little bit of a technical jigsaw puzzle, put a 2000-2004 F-series or 2000-2005 Excursion motor in it and get a performance boost (PI versus non-PI heads). You can also use any year of van motor from 2000 up that will also be 2-valve PI heads, but need to swap oil pickup, oil cooler adapter (I think) and the oil pan.

Whats your location? I have a spare in the barn that I doubt I'll ever need. Its a low hour, LP, Gen-drive engine that followed me home from work. Pickled & shrink-wrapped, its just taking up real estate. Just needs your pan & TC cover.

I'm in Brunswick GA. What do you mean by LP, Gen-drive?

1600 miles is a lot, but a lot cheaper than a new engine. Sound like a great road trip.
