Just so ya Know

Decided to try to increase my mpg by changing my EBP sensor, tube and manifold fitting. Pulled sensor and top tube fitting from bracket. Figured the tube would be intact and go to the bottom fitting and finish the job and pull the tube.
Wrong. Tube got way loose and removed the top 1/2 of the tube. Went below and removed the other 1/2 of the tube. Tube was burned in 1/2.
Hours later after trying to install the tube I finally figured it out. Through the slot till it hits the electrical connector and big ground wire at it's ground point next to that.
Looks like I have to lower/remove my lower alternator to finish the job.
Will update on any change in mpg or other parameters once I get new tube and sensor finally installed.

That’s a pretty sizable exhaust leak. Let me know if you see more boost now.

If your new tube came from Ford and was purchased after 2001, it is bent differently, making it MUCH easier to install. Ford must have finally realized the issue with dual alternators and reformed the tube bend pattern to enable easier service/installation. I'm curious which design tube you were trying to reinstall, after your report of spending hours trying to thread it through. Did you have an old stock tube with the original bend? A new aftermarket tube that was a knock off of the original bend pattern?

The difference is subtle, but it makes ALL the difference in the world as far as frustration versus fitment is concerned. Have a look at my old tube on top, and the new tube on the bottom, in the photo below...

I have the dual alternator package as well and this is not the easiest task. I did not have to remove the lower alternator, but absolutely fought it for several hours. The only way I could get the tube oriented correctly was to go from the bottom up, and helps to have a second set of eyes and hands to help direct the path. I hope this helps.

Do you recall which tube that you used Steelheader87?

I can't emphasize enough that the difference in bends between the two tubes depicted above DEFINES the difference in being able to thread the tube between the head and the front bracket.

I used the new style, but it is a pain. Those with single alternators will not be able to relate. Again, from underneath the pickup you have to put in that gap, twist and turn and it will eventually, magically pop out where it is supposed to. I know you are, but make sure you have the correct side of the tube going where it needs to be.

I replaced mine about a year ago. I just wanted to make sure that the difficulty you reported was with the new tube. But after asking the question, I realized that it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to install the old tube AT ALL with dual alternators, without removing not only the lower alternator, but I'm guessing the bracket as well. I'm sure most people would take difficult over impossible. Or wriggling and wrangling over more wrenching.

Well, I got it done today. After giving it a miss last night. I got my good mech buddy over this morning to give his thoughts.
What happened:
Wound up draining the coolant, pulling the expansion tank, removing the belt tensioner pulley, pulled the AC condenser and zip tied it up out of the way, and pulled the pulley mount and condenser mount. Now I was looking at the clear path to simply place it where it goes and connect the flare fittings. Easy. I have the tube with more bends from Clay. Not saying that design couldn't be somehow inserted without have to expose the path, but I worked at it for 4 hrs yesterday, and decided to "make it easy"???
All's well after about another 4 hrs all said and done including putting the tools back in the box.
The code showed re: Exhaust Back Pressure Circuit A. Cleared the code, started truck, Code gone, All good.
Probably gained about 3 lbs of boost. Now get 24-25 with Hydra Daily driver 65 hp. Turbo is GTP38R with stock wheel.Stock injectors.

He’s referring to boost, not MPG.

That is correct, Boost numbers. Will let you know how the mileage around town changes from my standard 12 or so hand calculated. The lie-o-meter is up already. That might be a good sign.
