I've searched the internet and this forum and haven't seen a definitive answer.
The factory Ford trailer cam and TPMS, is the camera waterproof? As in mounted on a boat trailer. The camera would be submerged every time the boat is launched and loaded.
I'm not worried about the TPMS. I have plenty of space to keep the receiver dry.
I've seen the question asked in several posts here. But no responses.
the lens side must be waterproof, as it's exposed. As for the rest of the circuit card, it's at least water resistant, since the housing isn't watertight. But I'm guessing you could easily seal it up if it did need a little extra protection. I'm guessing the card is fully sealed though.. Just haven't taken it out of the housing to see.
I've pulled the camera out of the housing and had a look. But I don't know enough about waterproofing electronics to know if I'm looking at something that is sealed or not.
Would anyone be able to tell from the part number on the back of the camera?
Probably not.. just hook the camera up, and dip it in a glass of water.. if it dies, it wasn't waterproof.
If it looks like it's got a layer of clearcoat sealant covering everything, it's probably sealed (but still not neccessarily completely waterproof). And the other question - what kind of water? fresh or salt?
Post a pic of the camera circuit card and we may be able to offer more thoughts.
I haven't cracked open the actual camera. Just the large housing. Then there is the smaller housing on the inside with the connector and actual camera.
I guess I'll take a look and see what's required to open up the interior housing.
