Engine Bore

A couple of things. Will a stock head gasket set be OK when engine is bored .060. Should I get rid of the stock carb. spacer when installing new carb. EGR eliminated. THX David

You should be good with standard gaskets. Typical head gasket for a 351W has a 4.100" bore. Standard 351W bore is 4.000 so 0.060" overbore should be just fine with standard head gaskets.

I prefer using a gasket that is not so much larger than the bore itself, I'm honestly not sure why they go so large on them. Quench is better with a tighter gasket.

Pretty much any head gasket for a stock application is fine with proper prep and procedure (clean out bolt chases, block and head surface prep, bolt torque pattern, etc) but if you really want the best of the best buy a set of MLS gaskets and a quality set of bolts/studs.

You will probably need to keep a carb spacer so the linkage doesn't hit on the intake.
I've used nothing but FelPro for 30 years, never had a reason to swithch

I wouldn't bore any SBF to .060 over without a sonic test. I have seen to many bored that big that had problems overheating due to thin spots in the casting

Really? I've only seen some pretty robust blocks when it comes to sbfs, I've bored probably 3 dozen to 4.06 personally.

You are right. It is SBC you got to be really careful with. Getting old I guess.

I mean, it's never a bad idea to sonic check anything, I was genuinely curious if there were castings that were sub par so I could avoid them lol

And the 351c. Some of those blocks don't have enough meat on the thrust side at standard bore to build a performance engine, or so I've read. We've all dodged the bullet over the years but personally, I would sonic test anything that's getting bored .060, just for the peace of mind/
