I have a 2000 EX, it has 179.000 miles. I have recently replaced the entire front end to include a red head steering box and it still has slop, granted not as bad. I compare it to my 04 F250 superduty with about the same miles. The 04 is tight. Is there anything else? Any help would be much appreciated. Maybe something in the steering column? Since I am here, what is the best way to level the front end to the rear. As always thanks.
4WD? 2WD? Did you replace the hubs/unit bearings? They can be a source of slop in the steering.
The only thing in the steering column that would contribute to the slop is the steering gear box. Then it goes to the drag link connection/ball joint off the pitman arm, then to the other end of the drag link (upper right tie rod end), then down to the lower right tie rod end, the across the tie rod to the lower left tie rod end. Then the potential for slop extends out to the hub bearings. Nothing left after that...
Thanks for the reply. It is a four wheel drive. Yes they have been replaced. From the steering box to the lug nuts and every thing in between. I am at my wits end trying to resolve the issue.
