DEF SYSTEM

Who can help me out or give me advice on this system. 2013 6.7, installed a new DEF fluid heater in October but can't remember the last time i saw light come on for cleaning exhaust (even although if you are not looking you shall miss it). How would one know if this system is working correctly. One could only imagine that the particulate filter would probably have shut me down by now. Thanks

It's working fine. If not it would let you know for sure.

If you would like to monitor the percentage of soot in the DPF, there is a screen that can be enabled in the higher trim models.

if it wasn’t working, your truck would be in idle mode. Trust me, mine has been there for three weeks now.

Additionally, the DEF system has nothing to do with cleaning the DPF - (regen).

If you have DEF issues you'd probably know it, they are relentless. Per Doug's message above - there are 3 separate emissions systems in your truck - EGR - Exhaust Gas Recirculation, DEF - Diesel Exhaust Fluid and DPF - Diesel Particulate Filter. They are pretty independent of each other - I say "pretty independent" because they all mess with the exhaust and in some ways may impact each other.
