Another question might be what hard parts normally wear inside the transmission that one might want to replace?
Thinking if I decide to have someone rebuild my AOD transmission I could just hand them the parts instead of worrying about if they are worn enough to need replaced.
1981/89 F100/150, Bronco & E100/250.
1980/89 FoMoCo Passenger Cars.
I didn't look after 1989.
I'm not a fan of the AOD, facing the public (back counter was next to service office) when they failed was not pleasant.
The problem was: People drove in heavy stop and go traffic in Overdrive.
The constant shifting up/down .. in/out of Overdrive fried the AOD's guts and it didn't take very long for this to occur.

Heat is the mortal enemy of this trans. Install the largest external trans cooler you can find and stay OUT of Overdrive in heavy traffic!
Thanks for the professional review too. I bet you know all the problem items very well!
I have been reading that there are parts that can be changed out (not understanding real well right now) perhaps with the EAOD, but will upgrade the AOD somewhat. Then again I am thinking I don't race my van or plan to tow a heavy trailer so maybe just a stock rebuild would work for me?
Ford made a factory rebuild kit, you don't happen to know the part number? Also thinking in this situation perhaps one of the newer aftermarket kits might have better materials?
I defiantly want to replace the pump and torque converter.. BTW part number for the torque converter? I need to learn more about torque converters.
