Just bought a 94 explorer for my wife....have only had it about a week....95,000 miles. It runs great when it is running, but she has had a problem with it shutting down on her while driving...and then it won't want to start for awhile there after. It acts as if it is not getting fuel...a couple of times when I got it to start right after dying...it would idle real low and would not respond to pumping the accelerator....then after awhile it would act fine. Any thoughts? Fuel filter? Fuel pump relay? (these two are the cheapest and I hope the answer) Fuel pump? ignition system? Additionally the check engine light is on. Help is appreciated.

Very cute. Well, there certainly can be many reasons why this is happening (some that you mentioned).
My dad's Jeep had the EXACT same problem as you described. The mechanic replaced the fuel pump and the problem never showed itself again. I dont know if the mechanic replaced other parts relating to the pump (such as relay etc) or more than what was necessary, but you might want to start taking a look at the fuel system. Start with replacing the filter, check out the relay, then start focusing on the pump.
Sounds like a dying fuel pump. Had that same problem in my Mustang GT. If you get in the vehicle and first turn the key to on listen for a buzz, thats the fuel pump starting and priming. If after you drive for a while you can hear an audible whiny buzz then the vehicle stops, its definitely the fuel pump. Thats what I experience on my Mustang. Leave it sit for about 5 minutes and she'll start right up.
