Junkyard Fuel Injectors

I am fairly certain one of my fuel injectors is bad, and I don't want to pay the $100 or so that Ford wants for a new one. I was thinking about heading up to the junkyard and just pulling a set of them off a truck. I have heard bad stories about the eBay injectors and reman ones, so I'm not too keen on the idea of those. Any experience with JY injectors?

BTW, I have the 19# yellow/orange top injectors.

They were better than the ones I had in my Bronco II. At least I was able to start the truck which I could not do before. Try to find a truck with the lowest mileage and roll the dice? They are about $10 each at my favorite yard.

Then search youtube for testing and cleaning injectors at home before installing them. The first video shows a neat way of doing it with a schrader valve. I like the 2nd videos method of the syringe body, but the music is pretty obnoxious.

You can get a set of 8 refurbished OEM 19-lb injectors from E-bay for like $75.

Yes but they are often one of the newer styles that are prone to sticking open. The original EV1 pintle style injectors don't produce quite as fine a spray but they are easy to clean and seem to have a limitless lifespan.

What is the difference between the early and the later style injectors? When was the cutoff for the old style injectors?

I found both styles available for the same price.

Look up EV1 and EV1 Type3 injectors, the old EV1 that all these trucks were delivered with have a single fuel delivery opening while the Type3 have 4 smaller openings that better atomize fuel, but pretty much everybody that I have heard of that has tried to use refurbished Type3 injectors has had problems with them so maybe these are only good when new. There are even newer injectors styles now like the EV6 but they are not directly swapable in these trucks.. electrical harness adapters are needed.

Thanks for the education, now I know what to look for. I'm running some Seafoam through the fuel right now at a pretty strong dose. I've had good luck with Seafoam before, maybe it might clean the injectors out and I won't have to replace them. I'm still gonna grab some at the junkyard just in case.
