Looking for new fuel injectors for my 1990 F-150 5.0L/302cid. Injectors from auto parts stores are expensive (considering I want to replace all 8). Does anyone have a source for good quality NEW injectors at a more reasonable price?
I see that there are a lot of injectors on E-bay, but I don't know if any of them are right for my engine. The only numbers I can find on mine are E5TE-A3B. Don't know if this is a part number or not. Also, how many lbs/hour are the stock injectors on my truck rated for? A lot of the E-bay injectors have ratings from 19 lbs up to 50 or 60 lbs. I want to make sure and get the right ones. My repair manual doesn't provide that info either.
are you looking to replace the injectors for an upgrade? Fuel injectors rarely ever go bad unless you have like 300,000 miles on your ride. If you do need them check the summit catalog or j.c. whitney before buying from a parts store. Cuts out the middle man mark-up
ebay is fine, five0motorsports sells them there and via their website. You need the orange top 19# injectors as stock replacements. The also have a newer bosch design III 19# injector that is all green that can replace stock and is supposed to be better (stock is design II). Don't know what better means though. Don't buy used injectors.
The 1990 likely has design I's stock. Design II uses the same housing as design I, but has a 4 hole spray pattern. I bought some design II take outs from fiveOmotorsports on ebay and I'm very pleased with the product he sells. They come with a replacement guarantee. I agree about not buying used injectors (other than the very low mileage take outs that five0 sells) because they are likely no better than what you already have.
I got a set of 8 19 lb/hr which is stock for 5.0 and 5.8 Ford Racing injectors from Summit Racing for a little over 200 bucks. They work great. Would these be the first or second design?
I think those are design II's. Do you know the part number on them? Design II's came out in the early 90's, so they should have a part number beginning with an 'F'.

Injectors do go bad, for several reasons. If you don't run the truck a long period of time, the varnish in the fuel that last passed through the fuel rail, can gunk up the pintle at the end of the injector. Happens all the time.
Crappy fuel with lots of solids can also gunk up injectors, often causing them to get stuck open, as the solids wedge themselves nicely between the pintle and the cone, keeping the injector open a little bit.
Excessive heat can burn out the coils, rare but it happens from time to time.
A friend of mine had his injectors go on a 60K mile truck... though his fuel filter was clogged and he bypassed it on the side of the road just to get home, but forgot about it for a few months. Well, that ended that. We were able to clean the injectors, but its not something everyone can do. You need spare fuel rail, a in-tank fuel pump, a circuit to pulse the injectors, and a large bucket full of mineral spirits or a toulene based paint thinner.
