P0340...
I did a search on this issue, and it doesn't add up to me. First off my 4.2 is in my 95 ranger(yeah) fresh build engine when I got it had 60k(06 f150) on it but old owner didn't keep a eye on the oil due to seal gone on drain plug. So it's a 06 f150 4.2(freestar upper intake, so no drive by wire) 03 E150 EEC.
I have had this combination together for around 12k miles and it has worked flawlessly, I like it much better than the old 4.0/4r55e set up. I have had P0453, P1451 since I put it together due to they require different fuel tank/emission set up it hasn't bothered it at all, couple months back the EVR started bleeding through, plugged vac line for EGR no issues after.
Then last week the P0340 came up, at temp I could watch on my torque app it "miss" at idle, unfortunately the miss was it going from say 12degree of timing to 38-39 degrees. Driving down the road is the worst light throttle say 45 it would unlock and relock the converter slamming it(4R70W). I did some research on it swapping cam sync, crank position, ground issues, EGR issues, possible EEC issues. After seeing my timing jump at idle and going to fire up after fueling up, hit the key and it went full advance and actually stalled the starter. I ordered a new motorcraft cam sync sensor, removed the old one could see part line in the thick film and plastic like it was separating, this was Saturday, drove it around no issues running great flawless.
Until this morning, on my way home from work slamming into lock up, P0340 pending code again, clear it, slamming stopped for a brief time. couple miles later its slamming, lock OD out no issues. Has anyone out there had symptoms like this? I am wondering if my EEC is starting to fail, watching my timing the min to max range on the torque app was -3.5to38(yes negative timing) light throttle, grounds are still all in place.
Thanks,
Curtis
