New PSTD owner
Since the purchase of this vehicle I’ve become aware of the numerous problems associated with this engine, both anecdotal and apparently factual. There’s nothing in the service records indicating that there was any head gasket replacement, replacement, EGR modification, “bullet proofing”, etc. If the truck has not experienced any of the well known problems associated with its engine and/or components, I’m assuming it may have something to do with the assiduousness of the previous owner.
Having said that, I’m concerned. After much reading into the issues often associated with this vehicle, I’ve determined that at minimum, other than what might be considered conventional maintenance, I should do a thorough coolant flush, replacement with an ELC coolant often indicated as a preference, and then install a coolant filtration system. The fact of the matter is, I’m not sure if I need do anything other than follow Ford maintenance recommendations for this great truck or actually perform maintenance/modification tasks not necessarily outlined by or fall outside of such recommendations, TSB’s, etc. I must indicate at the start that I’m no auto mechanic and am quite new to the topics discussed in this forum. I do apologize for bringing up topics that seem to have been hashed out ad nauseum over the years here and elsewhere. At any rate, I would appreciate some feedback and words of wisdom. Thanks in advance.
Eric
