So after a couple of months of restoring my truck , motor and tranny swap , long tube headers , new led lighting etc... Ive come across an electrical issue. Now this issue is pre existing has nothing to do with the motor swap but i seem to have no flashers with the headlights on, all work when off except for front passengers. I ve gone through the harness and there doesnt appear to be brakes as i have good continuity at the sockets. I ve replaced the flasher relay under the hood for trailer lamps with the led model. and checked all the lamps in the tach cluster. the only thing i can think of is that the multi control flasher unit has malfunctioned any ideas?
like i said grounds are good at the sockets as i have good continuity. basically flashers work until headlamps are turned on. Once the lamps are on i still have running lights just no flashers. brake lights work , reverse lights work just no passenger side front turn signal when lamps off , no flashers with lamps on
Didn't post model year of truck but I'd suspect the headlight switch and or its harness connector behind it, especially if 92 or newer.
Sounds like its jumping power from headlight circuit to markers and when the head lights are powered on it overrides the flasher unit so they fail to flash.
A post mentioning info about your truck would be a good idea, model year how equipped etc.
the model of truck is a 92 f150 reg cab long box 4x4, has the e40d transmission. I ll double check the headlight switchi believe i have an extra one kicking around

Make sure you look at the harness connector while the switch is disconnected from it.
They tend to melt/distort/crack from the heat from the headlight juice going through the switch, system doesn't use relays to keep that load off that point.
Ok then the circuit for the right front marker light would be the next suspect.
Does this truck have now or had at some point in the past a plow unit installed on it, has the plows under hood harness/relays?
Perhaps tad premature at this point but might consider installing all stock style lighting, make any repairs required if any make sure it all works and then make the change to LEDs. But see how it goes first, haven't changed one to leds myself but based on what little I've read some? all? require resistors of some sort etc to function correctly? Do any of yours have them and where required?
