To Buy or Not To Buy Extended Warranty

I will be buying a 2014 F250 6.7 with 49000 miles, I have been leaning in the direction of buying a extended warranty from a few companies:
1. Alpha Warranty
2. Ziegler Auto Group with shows it is associated with the Ford ESP
3. Endurance warranty

Just wondering if anyone out there has purchased an extended warranty and your thoughts

Thanks

Extended warranties are a for-profit item for the sellers (translation: not a good deal for you). My wife was a writer at a Ford dealership for several years. Definitely, the aftermarket companies are to be avoided. She said the were pretty much always a nightmare to deal with and usually had enough hoops you had to jump through that you would most certainly miss one, letting them off the hook. She, as well as many on the forum would only recommend the Ford warranty. Even then, it's not a good deal. Don't make payments on a repair you may never need. If something major happens and you can't afford it, go borrow the money and make payments on something you actually got.

I've never been a believer in extended warranties. HOWEVER, since owning my 2011 F250 6.2 (bought it new to me two years ago), I've had to replace a cabin blower motor and the AC evap core. The blower motor I did myself so it was just the cost of the parts (and my time). The evap core, though, ran me well over $2,000 because the dealership had to remove the seats, the center console, and the dash to get to it. And I've seen many posts about core failures on these trucks. If I had it all to do over again, I'd buy an extended warranty.

I look at it as health or life insurance on my truck. Considering the cost of water in the fuel repair being $7k to $10k, I think is worth the cost to add it.

The WIF repair kit approx $3500-$4000 and a core charge of $1500. Then you have approx 40 hours labor on top of the kit price.

I have the extended Ford warranty on my 2012 and when both electric telescoping folding mirror gear systems failed at 1200.00 each it has already paid for itself and I still have warranty till spring 2019! I would definitely recommend but only the ford one.

I would not own a modern diesel without a factory warranty.

I too opted for an extended warranty on our '09 F-250. It's always been a pat answer that extended warranties are something to avoid but I went ahead and purchase a plan from Ford. It paid for itself 3 times over. At 41,000 the drivers side exhaust manifold cracked and began leaking exhaust. The replaced both sides at that time. I had a wire break that goes to the fuel tank and the dealer tracked that down and fixed it and that small repair alone would have cost me over $1,000.00 but even with the nominal deductible it was painless.

The exorbitant shop rates these days and the purposely built in complexities and difficulties of accessibility of today's vehicles renders even the most mechanically inclined owners helpless. All that just about demands additional warranty coverage beyond the factory new vehicle warranty.

Yes, I have the Ford ESP. Bought it from Ziegler. Flood was about 100 cheaper but Ziegler offered the Ford 0% financing over 12 months.

When there were less electronics involved I didn't. When I bought a 14 Toyota I did....it more than paid for itself the 1st time I needed it. I will in the future as well. Roll the (expensive) dice...

I also went with the Ford ESP - expensive as he11, I take it as an insurance policy. I have had some minor issues (parking brake & heated steering wheel) which were fixed no questions asked. My experience has been that once you get past the extended warranty period without a major failure you can probably expect a relatively long life without anything major. Now that logic was on gas powered vehicles, there are many here that would differ with my opinion. Just remember - this site is a small sample size of the total number of Super Duty owners out there. Out of that small sample size a lot of folks just post when they have a problem.

.
modern Diesel... = Ford extended warranty... none others...

if others get to many claims... they close.. you are not covered.

I do Gas.. so No extended warranty... needed. or wanted.
156,000 miles .. not one major issue on my 2012.

My dad always gets the extended warranty on his diesels. He's had the 6.0 and the 6.4 (recently moved up to 6.7) and he had more than enough trouble with the first two to pay for the warranty. He also brings his vehicles in for every little thing.

I vote Buy.
My 2012 F350 with 6.2, 74K had to get towed in, this past December. I was switching tools and material to another truck in the dealership parking lot.

I have a new BCM, new anti-theft module, new battery. 3-4 hrs labor. Cost me 245 out of pocket (cost of batt + 100 deductible). Worth every penny for me this time around.
