This is something me and many others have had trouble with in recent years. It seem's those that have trouble once always have trouble and others never have a problem. It's like Harbor Freight tools and ethanol in gasoline.
Hey Willow. Remember back in the day points used to come with a capsule of grease for the rubbing block for that wear?
For those too young to remember, get some dielectric silicone grease. This is the same thing as disc brake caliper slide grease. Put a dab on the inside edge of the points' rubbing block.
My last set of points came without the grease capsule... I was shocked
I improvised, but I don't think it was what you mentioned... maybe I'll have to inventory my grease supply now

I can't help it..... "Why would ANYbody put Harbor Freight Tools in gasoline?"
Grease? I thought that was a suicide pill for the mechanic trying to start the mounting screws for the points!
Starting those screws isn't *THAT* hard... 'course it's a great idea to not drop one of those screws into the distributor... BTDT...
Used to have a tool made by Aircraft Specialties Corporation... was a nylon handled, spring loaded, straight slot screw starter... it inspired me to make a drink out of 190-proof and cranberry juice... I called it the "Aircraft Specialties Corporation Cocktail", because it was a great screw starter

When diesel fuel isn't available we must add rattle to gasoline or our trucks refuse to run on it. Some folks use rocks but HF tools aren't good for anything other than trot line weight anyhow.

I bought a tube of the regular points grease 4-5 years ago. It's enough to do all the points on the planet for the next millennia, lol.
