I’m also shopping for the ssme thing. I have a 2018 KR due here monday and want something flush with the bed rails but not touching the bed floor so I can still slide in a few sheets of plywood. I have pretty much settled on the Weatherguard ‘porkchop boxes’ but Im interested in the other options here.
I can attest to Weatherguard quality.
I always use saddle boxes as Im a carpenter and a pack rat...
I’ve seen their chests and they have the same great features as the cross bed boxes. They are more money but worth it.
Check out the tool boxes from Diamondback. You’d have to figure out if it fits under your specific tonneau cover. Obviously fits perfect under the Diamondback cover. Fits flush along the bed rails. They offer two different depths.
I bought THIS ONE and laid it on its side so the door opens upward. Added a bolt-on handle at each end and used turnbuckles to secure it in place under my BAL Revolver2. Used turnbuckles so I would have the ability to move it out of the way if needed ... haven't had to yet. You could set in place upright and let the door swing down onto the bed. The fold-up and plastic under-cover (and off the bed floor) boxes were either too small or too large to suit me.
my weatherguard sits below the rails. I've had it on 2 trucks now. it's seen everything from Chicago winters, florida salt, and arizona summers. the powerdercoat is faded and the weatherstrip finally fell off last year. other then that its rock solid. It was not cheap though lol. Mine leaves about 12" of space on either side, they make a wider one that goes side to side almost the whole way.
I have a tractor supply box, that sat under the rails & cover. Its 60X18X20 for sale for $125.00. Its 3 years old & always under the cover. Was $300.00 new. I got a new truck & smaller tool box. Send a PM if interested.
I installed the Bakbox and it was easy, well built and low profile. The only thing I had to do was add a few more screws to make it more secure. You can still store things under it if need be.
