Tool Box question

My son has a 99 F250 short bed. I'm looking to buy him an aluminum tool box for X-mas. The one he wants is at Tractor Supply. It's the one they call a storage box. The measurements are 57" wide by 20" deep (front to back). Since I don't have the truck here to measure, does anyone know if it will sit down all the way onto the floor?

just went out and did a quick measurement, it looks like 19.5-20" on mine, so yeah that'll sit all the day down. mine is a long bed on a crew cab, but the height should be the same.

I have an 06 swb and if I remember right the measurement was right at 66" from mid rail to mid rail. It should fit all the way down. I got my tool box from Tractor supply but it sits on the rails. Great box.

I just measured and bought a tool box for my 2000 F250 last night. I have an 8' bed and supercab (not sure if that matters for width). Inside bed rail to inside bed rail was 65". Outside bed rail to outside bed rail was 75". The box I bought to sit on top of the bed rails was at 72" on the wings and I can't remember lower box dimesions but it was around 57" mark.

The 72" wings sits just over mid rail on each side.

I dont have my short-bed anymore, but I think ya better check and have someone measure from the front of the wheel well to the bed wall, I ended up going with a Weatherguard over the sides because of the wheel wells.... http://weatherguard.com/truck_tool_b...p?subcat_id=15
check here, the 654-0-01, I think is the one I had and had to have it on aluminum blocks to clear the wheel well....

I would be concerned about the 57" number. If you want it to sit on the floor, I don't think it will clear the inner fender wells on the short bed. I have a low profile full width box. It actually hangs over the fender wells a little bit (mine clears ok because it is suspended on the outer rails). You need to measure before you buy.

Home Depot has a standard box and a deep box. These are over the rail type. The deep box works very well for big objects (gear bags) but its downfall is you can't put anything underneath.
