As The Bone pointed out, the risk of doing it over and over is the real concern when determining which part to use as a replacement. The cost difference between OEM and aftermarket is only a couple hundred dollars. The fact that so many failures are reported for the OEM product is what is pushing me towards using the aftermarket product. If I knew that the OEM product had undergone improvements since the factory installation, then I would no doubt use it. Without that info, I can only assume that is is identical to the original and will again fail in a fairly short amount of time.

Replaced mine a couple weeks ago with an aftermarket unit, wire points and connections seemed better than OEM unit I took out, works fine too, ran it low then topped off. Got mine off rock auto, which also sells the BOSCH branded OEM unit, no point in paying extra for the same junk. I used the cheapest one I could find, easy job, just ensure cleanliness. Even if I do it 2x I’m money ahead on dealer cost of the part.

The cheapest one at Rock Auto has a lifetime warranty. I like the strategy of avoiding the Bosch version. Thanks bobcat67 for reminding me of RockAuto. Does have a slightly higher cost than Amazon or eBay, but obtaining through a reputable source and knowing the lifetime warranty is likely able to be supported provides added value.

I’m a fan of Rock Auto, sure a person may be able to find a part cheaper on Amazon or EBay, but rock auto will most likely be there for a while, and any issue I’ve ever had had been resolved in a timely manner and professionally. Recently bought a fancy set of drilled and slotted rotors and fancy brake pads, they accidentally sent 2wd rotors, which sucks, but sent me return shipping labels and refunded my money quickly. Ended up being able to turn my stock rotors cause they were in great, almost new shape, pads were shot though. Anyway long story short, good warranty, good price, good service is a win-win in my book.

I second Rock Auto too. Bought many parts for different vehicles too. I've also ordered from Villagefordparts.com. But no filters from neither. I used to order from Amazon for oil and fuel filters but since I had been hearing about the fakes, I stopped. Bought some MC oil filters from Wal-Mart for my last few.

It depends on how you use your truck and the gear ratio. Mine has the 3.55s. I get at least 7k miles per tank. Probably more like 7.5k miles. But mine doesn't pull anything.
