My Aerostar is on its last leg. I've hit two deer and had 7 run into the side of it. The underside even tho is rust coated, is rusty. I've bought another truck to replace it. But before I scrap it I want to enter it into the Detroit Gambler 500 this spring. If you don't know what that is, search for @DetroitGambler500 on Facebook.
As it does have an off-road part, I'd like to throw in a Limited Slip to help out... But I want to do this on the cheap. So my question is...
Is there any Ford cars/trucks/vans with a limited slip/locker that will fit in my 1994 Aerostar XLT 4.0L Auto RWD?
yep. weld the spider gears... it becomes a locker on the cheap.
limited slip is not that good... Posi is much better... and harder to find.
What do you mean when you say "posi"? The word "Positraction" is a GM/Eaton trade name for their clutch based limited slip differential, which is essentially the same thing as Ford's Traction-lock differential.
If I go to the store and ask for "Kleenex", and they sell me generic facial tissue, I can still blow my nose into it.
But if I go to my auto parts store and ask for a new set of clutches for the "posi" in my Ford, they will blink at me, as "Positraction" never came from Ford factories.
I'll weld the spidersgears. I'm just worried if axles will hold up on the road. I live about twenty miles from where thrytcamped out last year, so I'd I've doing double the driving as iIhave to drive it 2.5hrs south to Detroit first and then back after. If I can't find some 15" rims I'll be putting some mud-terrain-tires from Nashville tire reappears and they look very grippy.
Just throw a mini spool in there, it will give you the same result as welding the spiders but it will be stronger and you can take it out and put the spiders back in if you want to.
