well .. I think the time has come to sell my f150, this truck is a dear friend of mine but due to not having a place to park it I probably have to sell it. The truck is a 1986 f150 4x4 lariat short box red cab. The drive train is a Efi 302 full roller with factory forged pistons , alll the bolts in the engine are stainless steel arp bolts . It has brand new manifolds with true duel exhaust an 2 chamber mufflers . Honesty I can’t remember all the stuff I have done to this truck .About 2 years ago I rebuilt the engine with new rings , bearings, an all gaskets and freeze plugs. The transmission is a new process 435 an has also been rebuilt about a month ago an shifts great. The rear end is a ford 9” with 3.50 gears. This truck has been basically been totally gone through with new searing components and suspension parts . I’m really bummed that I have to sell it but due to a new place I’m moving to I have limited space to park . My question is what would such a truck be worth ?
That is a nice looking truck, too bad you have to let it go.
Just a little info on terms we use. An engine that has new rings and bearings is more commonly referred to as overhauled. A true rebuild is an engine bored out with new pistons, reground crank, new cam bearings, timing set, oil pump ect. How much taper was in the bores? How much sideplay on the new rings in the old grooves? In the old days, they did the re-ring job and if it lasted 10,000 miles that got a few more years on the car. Nowdays most people drive that far in just a few months.
The engine had 60,000 miles on it before I took it apart an ran great. I figured well I had it out I’d see what needed to be done, the machine shop told me an showed me that the engine still had it’s cross hatch in all the cylinders. The engine when cold gets 160+ compression on all 8 . The truck runs super strong an compared to the old non roller engine it runs so smooth. I’d actually drove the truck 1800 miles on a trip not long ago with no problems. Every belt an hose is new also the tires are less then 6monthes old .
