recently i was in an accident a kid side swiped me. i have rust on the back of both wheel wells. he hit the right side wheel well and they have to but in a patch panel on that side. should i go and spend alittle extra and get a take off box from texas or but a patch in the other side also. the box i have is in good shape no stratches or dents just the rust. the boxes are $1100 and that is used. i think that is a little pricey what do you guys think i should do?
I am in the same situation as you were last year. Could you tell me what you ended up doing? What was the quote from your bodyshop on the patch panels? Did you find a good clean box to replace it? I am just wondering what I should do. I have an insurance claim for $900 that I can use towards the repair plus whatever it will cost me. I need both rear fenders fixed.
My truck is in the shop for some front end damage from a kid
who didnt see me stopped in the turn lane.
I asked the body shop how much to fix rust blisters (just a few)
on both sides. he said he just finished one and the way these trucks
rust out you need to replace an inner panel and outer panel to do it right.
500.00 - 600.00 per side.
anyone now where a good place to get a new or used box would be?
hey dahg911, I'm in Lincoln too. Where are you getting the body work done?
Look in the Thrify Nickel, there's usually an ad under auto parts about rust free pickup boxes. There's also someone up in Valparaiso along Hwy 79 that has a stack of them on a trailer with a phone number on it. I've also seen it sit along Hwy 77 going through Ceresco.
I have a card at home from a guy in Council Bluffs that specializes in finding good boxes. I'm at work now but I could find it for ya if your interested. I got it from the Wahoo swap meet a couple of weeks ago. There were a ton of them at the Lincoln swap meet a couple of months ago. Next good swap meet is in Fremont in June if you have time to wait.
You don't work at 911, do you? Or does the 911 mean something else?
yea i got have seen the ones along 77 and 79 i got the guys card. i actually got the rust repaired and it is starting to come back but the guy is going to fix it again for free
I have a friend who has had work done there and swears by them and I agree with him as far as quality of work for the price. Fortunately, I've never needed anything done body work wise in Lincoln.
Another place that is more affordable and best bang for the buck (or so I've been told by another close friend) is Tomes on West South St. It doesn't look like much, but they say for the price/quality for a used vehicle, it's the place to go.
Again, these are only suggestions and I've never done business at either one, I've never heard nothing bad about them.
Just don't go to Tracy's, major rip and I've seen some of the work come from there recently, not worth the hype they've been advertising.
I would search the recycler, ebay, etc... for a new box if possible. My box was shot to hell, rust, freakin huge dent and all kinds of dings and scratches. After spending a month or so searching and waiting for a good deal I found myself a box on the recycler. This thing has no scratches, the paint is in perfect condition, in fact I almost hate to put it on my rig. For 400 dollars it came with taillights, a bumper, talilgate and has rhino liner inside, the real rhino liner too. Cant beat that deal and like I said perfect paint and not a scratch or a dent on it. I was pretty happy, but spend some time searching around you will find something somewhere and I am sure it will be alot cheaper than having a shop do it. Oh and call up some places that do flatbed truck conversions they might have something they will want to get rid of for cheap. Good luck with your search.
went to him because he showed me some pics that he has done that have been in national magazines. one guy came back 5 years later to have it repaired again and he beats the he** out of his trucks
