Hey, my stock exhaust manifolds are cracked and I was thinking about getting headers anyway. I bought a pair of Patriot Clipster mid-length headers from Summit and I am having a problem with the fit. The header hits the rear engine mount crossmember right at the collector on both sides. The truck is a 1962 unibody that had a column shifted manual originally, now has a 3 speed floor shifted manual from who-knows what. The problem is with the crossmember, not the trans but it seems the column-shifted manual must have had a different crossmember that the automatic or floor-shifted manual.
I can't find headers anywhere else on the internet. Anybody else had this problem and overcome it???
I had similar problems with my '61 short bed. I used a ball peen hammer to finesse a little clearance. It fits, cannot testify to how well it runs, yet.
I used reds headers.
They fit great. No obstructions, cleared everything. I bought all 0f my exhaust pipe from the local parts stores and built my exhaust myself.
I tucked the pipes and cherrybombs up in the frame. You cannot see the exhaust hanging under the truck.
Still working on it . Hoping to have it ready in a few months.
This is a couple of pictures installed. One picture is using the mr.gasket throttle cable kits off the shelf at the parts store to make my accelerator. Pushes like a new car.
