What's the best and least expensive way to make my truck louder? I'm looking for that old Ford sound my 94 sounded beautiful. Is there any way I could replicate that sound on a 2004 model

Best and least expensive, either remove or replace the muffler.

That's what I was thinking to. Will that really make a huge difference. No muffler? I've never done that to a vehicle so Idk exactly.

I went with a Mbrp cat back system and love the sound, lots of complements too.

There are a bunch of people that have replaced the muffler with a straight pipe they will likely chime in shortly

I just bought my 04 almost 2 weeks ago. It had stock exhaust up to the muffler then had a flowmaster 40 single in dual out with 3 inch chrome tips. I'm used to my 93 bronco with true dual "18 glaspacks and a 5.8 or my 77 with a bored out 360 true duals with "16 glasspack. Needless to say the rattling 5.4 with stock cats and flowmaster didn't impress me none. I went straight to the muffler shop where they cut the section of pipe between the muffler and the y pipe and replaced it with"3 pipe. I'm not sure what size ford uses but That did make it noticeably louder. I then did the gotts mod or dwv mod and that made a hell of a difference on the tone. It sounded pretty mean and growled nicely. I don't expect flames out of the tailpipes like my 77 but I do like the rumble and pop of the glasspack but I also like the deep sounding tones of the flowmaster sound so I decided to go back to the muffler shop and have the rear cats removed. That made it a little louder and allows a little more rumble but still no crackling or popping. I'm expecting a 10 series muffler to arrive tomorrow and hopefully install it this weekend. I'll keep you posted on the progress. Hope this helps.

Before I bought the truck I thought it had stock exhaust based on the previous owners description, I found it on cl. Anticipating having to add duals I called my muffler guy the day prior to ask what it would run me adding a cat back single in dual out with chrome tips and he quoted me about $350 depending which muffler I chose. I'll let you know when I get the 10 on.
