My '68N750 has a good running 4bbl 361, but just not enough power for the grades in eastern TN. Looking for suggestion on engine swap so it is a little more enjoyable to drive and I don't hold up traffic so much. The truck is a dump and I gross close to 26K when loaded.

You sure it's a 361 4V? You couldn't get a 4V with this engine until 1974.
Considering how FT engines mount, you don't have much of a choice except for a 391 4V FT
Post the first 5 digits of the VIN, I'd like to see what engine it came with.

I am not certain if it is a 361, but it is a 4V. I only suspect it is a 361 and not a 391 as it is not that strong. I will get the numbers Sat eve or Sunday.(out of town most of Sat.)
Bill, the 5 digits of the VIN: N75ED. The truck has a rebuilt engine, or so I was told at time I purchased it. So it may have been exchanged for one with the 4bbl. I have not measured the stroke.
Regarding a swap, if I do, I would use a matching transmission. I drove a 70's F800 briefly and really liked the trans. Could you tell me the trans make? I would not shy away from making mounts etc, been there and done that.
